Awareness and Inclusion 2008

Mark outside Woolworths

The issue

Trying to get the government to ratify the UN convention on the rights of people with disabilities

Where we were

In September NCODP member groups from around the county campaigned for equal rights on market days in Kings Lynn, Great Yarmouth, North Walsham, Diss and Norwich.

What we did

We offered 20p (which was towards the cost of a stamp) to get people to sign a postcard to their local MP in support of the convention

The reaction

As well as the convention a lot of awareness (and eyebrows) was raised more generally for disability rights and equality issues.

Local council tells disabled people 'not to offend the public' by giving away moneyd).
