West Norfolk Mental Health User Forum

Who are we?

We are a forum of people that are using, or have used Mental Health Services in West Norfolk.

Our main aim is to promote the interest of our members, to further independence and full participation in the wider community.

We are doing this by being directly involved in the planning and development of mental health services in West Norfolk.

We an independent forum and are managed by the Norfolk Coalition of Disabled People.

What is user involvement?

Involving users of mental health services (or survivors of mental health services) is recognised as the most effective way to have constructive dialogue so that services are developed and delivered that are needed.

We work in partnership with statutory services (local district, mental health trust etc.) and voluntary service providers to ensure a ‘service user perspective’ and actively promote those who use mental health services to getinvolved and participate in meetings and local projects.

This can include the planning and further development of services, monitoring to check that they meet the needs of service users, involvement with recruitment of staff in local mental health services

We also establish effective working relationships with other ‘user led’ groups to promote effective service user involvement.

Who can join?

People over 16 years of age who have had, or are experiencing difficulties with mental health can become a member of the West Norfolk Mental Health Service User Forum. People can either self refer or can be signposted to us by statutory or voluntary agencies. New members will be invited to meet with us and will receive an induction to find out more about what we do. Our meetings are very informal and relaxed.

We like to recruit members from all areas of West Norfolk.
