Would you change your disability?

A discussion led by Iain Mcallistar on the 14th January

I'm not sure. People should accept others for who they are, but not being disabled would make life easier.

Johnathon

I probably wouldn't. We are who we are, and people should accept us for us. If they don't like that, they can get lost.

Fran

I probably wouldn't. I'm happy with who I am and if people don't like that, they know where the door is.

Gemma

'Children in Need make a big fuss about people being disabled and how special they are because of that. It would be better, if they realised that disabled people are still people and don't need to be treated differently, but at the same time people shouldn't be intimidated into giving money.'

Gemma

'In terms of Children in Need, people wouldn't think to give money because the knowledge isn't out there about disabled people struggling.'

Johnathon

'We're all the same, apart from our differences. People should do their best to understand those differences and respect them.'

Fran

I think it would be better for society to adapt. I would do them more good than it would do me.

'I think being disabled makes me an individual and I think that this is an important part of me. It helps me aspire.'

Chris

I agree with Chris, I think it would be better for society to change.

Jason

On the one hand, I would prefer it, if society changed. However, it would be in some ways easier if I did have a medicine to make me better.

Jack

I would choose for society to change for me, as I think it's better that way.

Laura

I would want society to change and to accept me for who I am.

'I feel alright with having a disability but I do find it difficult sometimes.'

Faith

I would want society to change, as well.

'I feel alright being disabled sometimes, but people can take the mick sometimes too.'

Georgia

I would choose the medicine, because it would make life easier.

'I feel good about it because there are adaptions to make my life easier.'

Josh

I want society to change because surely change of opinion is better than changing a person.

'My disability is part of who I am, why should I change?'
