What's been said about the film

open speech markI was very impressed with the professional quality of the young people’s work. Their energy and commitment were inspiring and I wish them all success in promoting their messages about the rights of young disabled people.close speech mark

Dr Maggie Atkinson, Children's Commissioner for England

open speech markThe project and the process of making the film required a lot of effort and teamworking for NCODP’s Youth Forum members but they all clearly had a very enjoyable time doing so whilst also learning a great deal.
The end result, however, has a much wider impact since the film presents to a far wider audience, key messages about disability.
The interviewees all point out that their impairment is simply a part of who they are – and they put across so well, the positive aspects of having an impairment, as well as recognising the challenges that it presents. It was fascinating to hear that some of these outstanding achievers felt that their success was as a result of (not despite) their disability.

open speech markI was really impressed with the film but more importantly how engaged all the young people were with every stage of the process. It was apparent that everyone involved had an opinion and input into the film resulting in an insightful and high impact end product. I really hope the group involved get to take the film to schools and are able to show it to as many people as possible and even make a follow up film!close speech mark

Rose Latham, Media Trust

open speech markI thought the film was amazing! It gave a clear message to all the observers about the barriers that remain around someone having a disability, but that also there are people who have overcome these and gone on to succeed in their chosen field.

They really are an inspiring group who have come together and are campaigning to make changes for themselves but also for so many other people who face those barriers everyday of their lives.close speech mark

Sarah Harrison, Norfolk County Council

open speech markI thought the film was a very good example of giving disabled people a chance of coming together and putting their views forward and showing what can be done.  It was a positive way of showing abilities rather than disabilities.close speech mark

open speech markBeing disabled does not mean that you can not take part in the same activities as non-disabled people. This film is a clear illustration of that. It was great to see so many of the young people from Norfolk so passionate about this project and committed to promoting the messages of inclusion and empowerment to other young people.close speech mark

Jay Crangle, Council for Disabled Children

"thank you to the Youth Forum for making sure I was told about this film and giving me the chance to see it, twice now!.  When I first watched the video I was immedialty impressed with the quality of the production, it goes without saying that the various messages were also very well put forward, this certainly made me think...

"Having grown up with Cerebral Palsy, I would have valued a short film such as "Don't Dis me I'm able" when I was younger, as it would have inspired me to see other disabled young people getting on with life and the endless career prospects that disabled people have open to them".

Tom Garrod, Norfolk County Council's Deputy Cabinet Member for Vulnerable Children
